About
Warwickshire-born soprano Kate Liggins studied at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire under the tutelage of Louise Crane. Roles include First Boy in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, La Tasse Chinoise in Ravel's L’enfant et les sortilèges, Lucia in Britten's The Rape of Lucretia, Barbarina in Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro, and Pauline in Offenbach's La vie Parisienne. In oratorio, Kate has performed the soprano solos in Mozart's Mass in C minor, Vivaldi's Gloria, Fauré's Requiem, Mendelssohn's Elijah, Handel's Messiah, Rutter's Magnificat, and Britten's Rejoice in the Lamb. While at conservatoire, Kate began to explore the world of choral music as a member of the renowned Chamber Choir under the direction of Jeffrey Skidmore and Paul Spicer. Her solo on their CD of the music of John Joubert was reviewed by the Church Times as "superb". During this time Kate also worked with Armonico Consort as a Young Artist.
After graduating, Kate moved to London to pursue this passion as a choral scholar at St Martin-in-the-Fields, Trafalgar Square. The following year Kate was awarded a place on the prestigious Voces8 Scholars scheme, and began to develop a varied career as a choral singer in and around London, working at churches including Temple Church, Holy Trinity Sloane Square, St Cuthbert's Earls Court, Grosvenor Chapel Mayfair, The Guard's Chapel, St Marylebone Church and St Saviour's Pimlico. As a member of the Philharmonia Chorus professional singer scheme, Kate had opportunity to perform at high profile venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Kings College Cambridge and abroad at the Auditorium du Nouveau Siècle in Lille, France.
As a teacher and workshop leader, Kate has worked with the Voces8 Foundation delivering workshops for primary and secondary school students across London and further afield, and with Armonico Consort's education programme across the Midlands. After developing her teaching alongside her performing career, Kate has now moved back to the Midlands following the birth of her son. She is now running a private teaching practice from home, welcoming all ages and abilities with a focus on adult learners who sing for pleasure and young people looking to pursue a career in classical singing, perhaps auditioning for music colleges or choral scholarships.
